I had SUCH high hopes for this session. I looked around my garden and noticed I had all the colors of the chakras and wanted to work with the energies for this series. It started beautifully and then the weather turned and I chose to work with the elements rather than stop the process. I may have to try this method again when I know the weather is going to be better. BUT, I did learn a few lessons so that is always a plus!

I choose all of my flowers and the intact film canister ( used an expired roll of Kodak Gold 200) and soaked them in creek water, I let everything steep all day in the sunshine to absorb all the good vibes. After soaking all day, I pulled the film out of the canister and was so disappointed to see the emulsion started coming off the film strip. After I pulled the strip out of the canister completely, exposing it to light, I cut the strip into 4 workable strips, attaching them to a piece of watercolor paper and securing with clips. I soaked the plants in developer made with passionflower essence and laid them on the film to sit for 20min. After exposure, I washed the film (no fixer) and scanned turning the negatives to positives in Lightroom.

Lessons learned: expose the film to light BEFORE soaking film and don’t soak expired film all day. I’m also not a 100% fan of soaking flowers in developer and laying them on the strip. More practice may be needed.

To be honest- I thought about NOT sharing this session with you. BUT I think it’s still important to share our failures. It’s the only way we can learn sometimes.

Have you had any failures lately? What did you learn from them? Care to share?
