Intensive Hand Salve / Leather Conditioner
It is woodstove season here in Virginia. I love woodstove heat. If you’ve never had a woodstove, you won’t know what I’m talking about, but it’s heat that an electric or gas furnace just can’t beat. I may love the woodstove heat, but my skin does NOT. My skin goes through a transition period during this time of year, the skin on my hands probably taking the brunt of it. My leather recliners start asking for some self care too during this time of year and that’s actually how this skin salve came to be.
The formula is simple as can be: 1 part beeswax, 1 part unrefined shea butter, + 2 parts almond oil. Melt everything down in a double boiler and then allow to cool. This salve is very hard to the touch but melts in your hands easily. I massaged into to my leather recliners and purse with my hands. Use a lint free cloth to wipe off an excess after you’ve allowed time for it to sink into the leather. Be sure to test your leather in a concealable spot to test before applying everywhere to be sure it doesn’t stain your leather. I know keep the jar on my nightstand to massage into my knuckles and feet before bed.
I used Avery labels and designed the simple label at Avery.com . You can design a fancier label if you are giving as a gift.
Below, are a few amazon affiliate links to the ingredients I’ve used . I will get a small commission if you purchase through these links but the price is the same to you whether you use them or not.
