Monthly Check In
It’s time for a quick end of month check-in. Developing this practice and incorporating it in the Garden Notes Journal has been really helpful over the past few years. To take stock of what worked well (and didn’t!) the previous month, it also helps to plant the seeds for the month ahead.
A few journal prompts you can use:
What felt good this month?
What where some challenges?
What plants want to work with me?
What is growing next month?
Whether you are growing your inner or outer garden (or both) it can be helpful to keep track of your intentions. This past month I had an opportunity present itself to me that on paper sounded wonderful, checked off a lot of perceived boxes I thought I wanted, and had potential to grow my reach with my journal, my art process, etc. but when I took a moment to pause, I re-read through my list of things I wanted to make, do, grow in this coming year (an exercise at the beginning of the journal) I realized this opportunity would take me away from the things I truly wanted to do this year. Sure, I could’ve probably squeezed it into my schedule but the extra time and energy spent leading up to its implementation would’ve taken me away from what I actually wanted. So I kindly passed on the opportunity. I’m making space to do what brings me the most joy this year. Had I not taken the time earlier to take inventory, I may have easily said yes to this opportunity and then regretted it later.
