Solargraphy

Have you ever heard of Solargraphy? I didn’t either until earlier this year but new I needed to give it a try once I did. Solargraphy is a long exposure photograph, capturing the sun’s rays as it passes over the sky. Using a pinhole camera, the camera is usually set up for months at a time.

For my experiment, I made a pinhole camera using a film canister and set it up from the Summer Solstice to the Fall Equinox. It was a test of patience for me. I also learned a few things to help my set up for the next time. My camera was set up in a tree to catch the rising sun as it comes up through the trees in my backyard.

This was just my first experiment with this type of photography. I can’t wait to set up a few more cameras up around our property to capture the sun as it moves through different areas.

Have you ever shot this type of photography before? If so, I’d love it if you shared your tips + tricks so I can learn more!
