Eco Developer / Cloves

The developed negative using whole cloves as part of the developing formula

This is what lights me up! This is a photograph I developed with whole cloves! I made a simple pinhole camera and let the paper expose for about 4 days during this last snow storm in the woods. I developed it last night with an eco developer created with an infusion of whole cloves, washing soda, and vitamin c powder. The final result is this paper negative. I scanned and turned the negative into a positive image using Lightroom.

I’ve been experimenting with making homemade film developers, some with better results than others.

There is a lot of room for improvement in my placement, exposure time, etc. but getting a developed image makes me so happy.

The developed nagative

The positive image once it’s been scaned and inverted in Adobe Lightroom, The dark arcing line going aross the image is the path the sun took over the 4 day exposure. This is another form of photography, called solargraphy.

This is what I love, incorporating nature into the creative process. Finding new ways to use Nature’s gifts.
