Still Life in the Wild

My Art Publisher asked me just before Christmas to work on a few still life briefs for them. It was just the kick in the ass I needed to get out of the house with my camera in hand and just create. It’s been a while since I’ve let myself just wonder and explore, shooting what spoke to me at the time. These past few months have been more about focusing on other things besides creation and to be honest, I felt rusty getting back out there. But I knew it was a challenge I was ready to tackle. I decided to use my Helios lens exclusively for this set to focus on the details, allowing everything else to fade into the background.

The creation process is a funny thing and I know my fellow artist, photographers, + creatives will know exactly what I’m talking about. So many thoughts run through my head while I’m in the middle of a wave of creativity. I tend to work a lot of things out mentally while I’m creating and usually feel lighter + freer afterwards; that’s when I know what I created is good.

This little set lit a creative spark in me that I can’t wait to nurture into 2022. I’m wanting to experiment more this year, tackling my leftover creative to-do list from last year I didn’t make the time for, enjoying the processes + sharing what I learn along the way.
