Spilling the Tea
I’m going to tell you a little secret…. I don’t like to drink tea. Well, I don’t like to drink hot tea. I’ve tried for years to enjoy it. I’m an herbalist, and herbalists are supposed to drink daily pots of hot tea, right?! I finally came to the conclusion a few months ago that I just do not like hot tea. But I do love iced tea. But what I also love about tea is all the other things you can create!
Here are just a few additional ways you can use your tea blends that don’t involve brewing a hot pot to drink.
Cold water infusion - similar to ice tea but instead of boiling the water before adding your tea, I like to infuse a mason jar full of cold water overnight with the tea and drink it throughout the day.
Make a flavored simple syrup. One of my FAVORITE ways to use teas and herb blends is to create a simple syrup using a 1:1 or even a 1:2 ratio of water to sugar. Boil the water, add sugar and stir until fully blended, then let your tea steep for 20min to overnight. Use the syrup to flavor kombucha, mineral water, cocktails, mocktails, or to back sweeten your artisan wine.
Flavor milk to use in your baking projects.
Make a tea wine. Yes! You can make wine with tea. I’ve got a few batches brewing now, following this method.
Add a tea bag while your oatmeal cooks for added flavor.
Use a tea blend and make a unique liquor flavor. Either to sip or blend into a cocktail.
Use a cold concentrate as the base for a mocktail.
Infuse in honey.
Use to flavor homemade ice cream.
Use as a bath tea.
