Herbal Marshmallows
It sounds a little crazy but I woke up the other morning with a knowing that I needed to make homemade marshmallows with real marshmallow root.
A few flavors came easily to mind so I used the google machine and found this recipe. 3 ingredients and easy enough. I followed the recipe to a T except I used different teas and herbs in my marshmallow root infusions to create different flavors:
Kentucky Bourbon with tea from my local tea shop.
Lady Gray with tea also from the same shop plus a little lavender from my garden and butterfly pea powder for the color.
Hibiscus + Tulsi - next time I’ll go extra heavy on the hibiscus to get more pink color.
Cocoa + Shroom using The Honeystead’s Bee Attuned Mushroom Blend.
Vanilla using vanilla paste.
I’ve been enjoying these in my morning coffee but they would be good in other hot drinks as well. I’m thinking of creating some sort of cocktail with a roasted bourbon marshmallow. And even thinking adding these to homemade ice cream would be amazing as well.
Do let me know if you make these and what flavors you create!
My marshmallow root harvest from the fall of 2023. After harvesting and cleaning, cut it up and allow to dry. Then use your blender to grind up the roots.
The leaves and flowers of the marshmallow plant can be harvested throughout the growing season but stick to the roots for this reciepe.
Ground marshmallow root. A few stock photos of marshmallow herb can be found via my Cavan Portfolio
I will be adding this process to my Garden Notes Journal to keep on hand.
